Kitty LaBounty

Native to Oregon, Kitty LaBounty first came to Southeast Alaska as a student volunteer botanist for a USFS ecosystem inventory and mapping project. Other than a three year absence to complete her education, she has made Sitka her home for over 30 years. Trained at University of Washington and University of California Riverside as a botanist and mycologist, LaBounty has conducted botanical and vegetation surveys for a variety of agencies in southeastern Alaska. Besides her professional interest in plant ecology and plant identification, LaBounty is a passionate gardener, wild food gatherer and dabbler in natural dyes. She is currently a professor of biology for the Sitka campus of the University of Alaska Southeast, teaching biology, microbiology and natural history.
